Press-conference at UNIAN on announcement of the national journalist contest “Changes in you may change the world”

On 30 July, EU Project “Support to the secondary healthcare reform” held a press-conference to launch the national journalist contest “Changes in you may change the world” to better cover those issues, dealing with further healthcare system development in Ukraine. The press-conference was attended by a Deputy Health Minister of Ukraine, Mr. Bidny Valeriy, head of the Presidential National Council on healthcare issues and adviser to the President of Ukraine, Mr. Polishchuk Mykola, team leader of EU Project “Support to secondary healthcare reform in Ukraine”, Ms. Abovskaya Oxana.

The national journalist contest shall be organized with financial support from EU Project “Support to secondary healthcare reform in Ukraine” and in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and National Prize in Healthcare.

Contest facilitators aim at increasing awareness of mass media about advanced development trends in healthcare of Ukraine and other European countries, as well as making incentives for journalists, in order to cover this issue.

The contest aims and objectives were covered by EU Project “Support to secondary healthcare reform” team leader, Ms. ABOVSKAYA Oxana. The following contest topics were defined, in particular:

1. New trends and challenges for the healthcare systems in EU and possible response in Ukraine
2. Role of the local authorities in organization and provision of the health services
3. Health insurance: solidarity, equal access and accessibility
4. Role of the hospitals in the provision of the qualified specialized care
5. Role and place of a family doctor in the system of healthcare services provision
6. Development of a health care system within the existing normative-legal framework (with the focus on recommendations of EU funded Project “Support to Secondary Healthcare Reform in Ukraine”)

Nominations for contest:
• the best TV program/program series
• the best TV program/program series
• the best publication/publication series – in printed media
• the best publication/publication series – in electronic media
• the best publication/TV/Radio program on EU-funded Project “Support to Healthcare Reform” activity


The contest final results will be reviewed by the jury. which consists of:

1. Valeriy Bidniy, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, the Chairman of the jury
2. Mykola Polischuk, chairman of the National Council on Health under the office of the President of Ukraine, advisor of the President of Ukraine
3. Oxana Abovska, team leader of EU-funded Project “Support to Secondary Healthcare Reform”
4. Ludmila Gordon, press-secretary of Minister of Health
5. Semen Gluzman, Director of Ukrainian-American Human Rights Bureau, member of the Ukrainian Psychiatrist Association
6. Evgen Sobolev, journalist, chief of Independant Journalists Investigation Bureau “Svidomo”
7. Oleksiy. Pogorelov, general director of Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers
8. Alla Kizim, editor-in-chief of “Healthcare Facilities Management” magazine
9. Andriy Kulikov, journalist
10. Natalia Ligachova, journalist


The contest results to be announced in December 2009.
The common award fund will constitute about 70.000 UAH
