Public debates on “Secondary healthcare reform: current situation and following steps” were held on 3 July 2009 in Chudnivsky rayon of Zhytomyr oblast. They were actively supported by the Project “Support to secondary healthcare reform in Ukraine”, civic movement foundation “Ukrainians against TB”, international journalistic association “Zdorovja bez kordoniv” (Health without limits).

On June 22nd, 2009 EU Project “Support to Secondary Health Care Reform in Ukraine” together with Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (KhMAPE) conducted the Final Conference on summarizing testing results of health management training curriculum and learning materials.

EU Project “Support to secondary healthcare reform in Ukraine” alongside with the World health organization and Ministry of health of Ukraine held the academic and research conference “Implementation of healthcare quality management concept in Ukraine” at Danylo Halytskyi Lviv State Medical University on 16—17 June attended by international audience.

In the course of preparations to the seminar “Supporting MoH to implement the elements of QMS at National level of organization of Health Care in Ukraine” the experts of the EU Project has developed the Glossary of key terms in the Quality and Standards.

On the 15th of April 2009, the Team Leader, Ms. Oxana Abovskaya, the international Project expert in institutional development and managerial staff training, Mr. Luca Brusati, and the national health policy&legal coordinator, Dr. Volodymyr Rudiy, took part in the live program “Vashe Zdorovya (Your Health)” of Zhytomyr OTRC.

On the 1st of April 2009, in Zhytomyr, on the premises of Zhytomyr nurse institute, the Project has held a seminar regarding the topic “The Role of Local Authorities and Self-government Bodies in Current Health Care System Reform”.

The third two-day national seminar on “Modern Methods of Healthcare Management and a Possible Model of Sector Reform” was held by the Project on 18-19 March 2009.

Following the approval on 19th February 2009 of the Methodology Manual for Developers of Medical Standards, Clinical Guidelines and clinical Protocols (part 1) by the Ministry of Health and the Academy of Medical Sciences, (Prikaz No.102/18 от 19.02.09), the project launched the first of a series of Training the Trainers teaching sessions on the topic of the methodology for developing national standards, guidelines and local clinical/organisational protocols in line with modern European and international practice.

On the 23th-24th of February 2009, in Koncha-Zaspa, took place the second two-day seminar for oblast health care administrators, the topic was “Modern Methods of Health Care Management and a Possible Model of Sector Reform”.

On the 26th of February 2009, in Poltava, the Project held a press-club meeting with the topic: “How Can Health Care Organization Be Improved”. The event was organized in order to inform the representatives of oblast and rayon mass media about current trends in health care system development, the main goal of Project activity and the work supported by Project in Poltava oblast on preparation and implementation of the secondary health care reform.

The Project launched a series of seminars for the administrators of oblast health care authorities with the topic “Modern Methods of Health Care Management and a Possible Model of Sector Reform”.

On the 27th of January, 2009 international and Ukrainian experts of the EU Project “Support to Secondary Health Care Reform in Ukraine” took part in the regular meeting of Zhytomyr press-club dedicated to the issue of “Why and how the European Union supports Zhytomyr oblast in implementing new standards of health care provision”.

On the 18th of December 2008, in the Ministry of Health took place the third meeting of the National Work Group on development of the National Strategy of Secondary Health Care Reform.
